Jenn and Justin are the kind of cool and down to earth couple with whom you could sit down for an afternoon cup of coffee or tea and by the time you get up you realize that it's well past midnight. I try to not do any photography for my friends because I truly want to enjoy the day and be present as a guest rather than a vendor. But I was truly honoured when they asked me to shoot their wedding over 2 years ago. In that time Jenn asked Ronak to be her maid of honour, our newborn became the flower girl (she aced that bit), I've shot their engagement, helped plan some aspects of their weddings (I was there when Jenn was picking out the dress) and somehow ended up at the Bachelorette.
Jenn and Justin envisioned an airy outdoor ceremony just outside of the city, after exploring multiple venues they arrived at the beautiful Holland Marsh Wineries in Newmarket, ON. The Venue itself caters to a very rustic feel with fantastic indoor elements; exposed wood beams, wine barrels, a second floor balcony and floor to ceiling windows facing the vineyard and rolling hills as well as the setting sun.
The grounds also don't have a shortage of backdrops for some fantastic photos.
PHOTO TIP: schedule 2 times for photos if your ceremony takes place while the sun is still fairly high in the sky or a longer session during sunset.
Since the wedding took place in early June and the ceremony was in the mid afternoon we scheduled a second time for us to go out for photos, during the sunset. Sunset photos rock, but are generally also much more comfortable and the results are also more flattering (think no squinty eyes, or very harsh shadows). Plus can you really beat a romantic stroll through a vineyard during sunset?
The rest of the night was fun and upbeat and we wrapped up the photography for the day with a sparkler tunnel.
